Mekong delta should make breakthrough in agriculture development: President

On a visit to the Mekong delta on July 29, President Truong Tan Sang noted that the region needed a breakthrough in agriculture development to help the  sustainable growth, national defense and security, and social order and safety.

In a report to the President, deputy chairman of the Steering Committee of the Southwestern Region Board Nguyen Phong Quang said that  the committee would co-ordinate with other related agencies to organize a business forum themed “ Re-structure agriculture sector – New countryside face” to speed up inspection of the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Decision 2270 on the region’s socio-economic development in the period 2011-2020.

The committee will liaise with the Ministries of Investment and Planning; Agriculture and Rural Development to complete the project Co-operation in consuming agricultural produce and the project New model of cooperative and re-structuring the agriculture sector in the region, he added

President Truong Tan Sang highly lauded the region’s achievements in economy, culture and national defense anc security as well as the committee’s efforts in pushing up the localities to finish the targets.

On the same day, the committee in coordination with the Mekong delta province of Dong Thap hosted a musical performance with the participation of President Truong Tan Sang, former Party Secretary Le Kha Phieu.

The event was held to raise fund to support soldiers and fisheries resources surveillance force members. Total collection is VND119 million (US$5,607,280)
