A solemn meeting and a massive parade took place at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi today, marking the 70th anniversary of August Revolution (August 19th, 1945- 2015) and National Day of Vietnam (September 2nd, 1945- 2015).

Attending the ceremony were the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam; former Communist Party general secretaries Le Kha Phieu, Nong Duc Manh; State President of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang; former State Presidents Le Duc Anh, Tran Duc Luong, Nguyen Minh Triet; Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and other leaders of Party, State, Fatherland Front Committee of Vietnam as well as veterans and Vietnamese heroic mothers.
The Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit and his high ranking delegation, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Men Xom On, crowded international friends also joined the event.
This year's event started with a torchlight procession from Ho Chi Minh Museum to Ba Dinh Square at 7am.
Torch was handed to hero of people’s armed forces Trieu Xuan Hoa to light flame monument. Ministry of Defense fired 21 gun salutes in the area of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long while saluting the national flag.
At that time, traditional flag saluting ceremony was officially held 12 places in Hanoi capital, making Vietnamese people remember about the history of seventy years ago.
Amid solemn atmosphere, state President Truong Tan Sang was on behalf of Party and State to deliver a speech marking the 70th anniversary of August Revolution and National Day.
After President’s speech, a parade marked the 70th anniversary of August Revolution and National Day which were controlled by Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.
This year’s parade included performances of armed forces, police, people’s army, veterans, workers, youth, and women.
