The Pho Hien Market in the northern Hung Yen Province caught fire at 9:40 p.m. on March 19.

The fire destroyed everything in the market in one hour. Shop fronts fitted with rolling shutters prevented people from controlling the fire as black smoke columns filled the sky.

Merchants cried as their commodities burnt to ashes. Shopkeepers said that the market opened less than two months ago after renovation.

The damage from the fire is expected to be worth billions of VND.

Five fire trucks from surrounding areas arrived from all over the area and neighboring provinces yet were unable to control the fire.
