Leaders pay tribute to heroic martyrs

A delegation of top Vietnamese leaders laid wreaths and paid tribute to heroic martyrs at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs in Hanoi on July 27 on the 69th National War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day.

The leaders included Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Dai Quang, former President Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former NA Chairmen Nguyen Van An and Nguyen Sinh Hung, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, among others.

They then paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum.

Delegations from the Central Military Commission, the Ministries of Public Security, and Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee also laid wreaths at the Heroic Martyrs’ Monument and President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum.

Candles were lit at more than 2,000 cemeteries nationwide at the same time on the evening of July 26 in commemoration of war martyrs.

A number of gifts were also presented to Heroic Mothers, invalids and families of martyrs across the country.

Nearly 1.2 million Vietnamese soldiers died in wars defending the country and in international missions, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.-VNA
