The relocation of residents displaced by the Dak Mi 4 Hydropower Project in Phuoc Son District, Quang Nam Province, has been carried out poorly, said a supervisory team from the National Assembly.
The team was led by Bui Thi Binh, deputy chairwoman of the Council for Ethnic Minority Affairs, who made the comment after a two-day inspection of the project.
After a trip to a resettlement area in the hamlet of Nuoc Lang, the team complained to Phuoc Son District authorities about poor conditions there.
These included poor quality apartments, insufficient land for cultivation, inadequate road networks and deforestation. Such conditions have caused much trouble for residents.
The team also found that little attention had been paid to giving locals instructions for production activities, protecting the environment and preserving the cultural identity of the Gie Trieng ethnic minority.
Binh asked the project management unit and local authorities to listen to opinions and suggestions by local residents and take measures to resolve their problems.
Local political and social agencies should give support to residents in resettlement areas to ensure quality of life, Binh demanded.
