A new 158 km highway project plan to link Hanoi and Lang Son Province at a cost of US$1.4 billion was submitted to the Ministry of Transport in Hanoi on February 17, according to the Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Expressway Development and Investment Corporation.
The highway will cross through the northern provinces of Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Hanoi, starting at the Huu Nghi Border Gate in Lang Son and ending at the intersection of 1A National Road and 5 National Road in Hanoi.
The entire highway will have six lanes, allowing vehicles to travel at a speed of 80-120 km per hour.
The Asian Development Bank will provide about US$500 million for the project, while the government will support by a further $180 million. The rest will be collected from various donors.
According to the Vietnam Expressway Development and Investment Corporation, the highway will meet the rising demands of transportation and tourism between Hanoi and the northern provinces, improve economic exchange between Vietnam and China, and bring about development in the northeastern economic zone.
