800 households and 1,000 hectare paddy fields are being submerged because of heavy rains in these days in the central province of Binh Thuan.
Head of the province Natural Disaster Prevention and Rescue Committee Nguyen Hung Tan yesterday said relevant agencies have been implementing measures to repair damages caused by flood in two days in Bac Binh District.
In October 7 and 8, Bac Binh District had heavy rains and rain water from the upper Mao River to lower Luy River, breaking the dyke Uy Thay-Da Gia in the district; accordingly, water had flown to the lower causing flood and submerging two communes Phan Hoa and Phan Ri Thanh.
Worse, the National Highway No.1 was under one meter of water and traffic gridlock took place in a few hours in the highway. Traffic warden had to come to the highway to handle it and guide vehicles to travel in Hoa Phu – Hoa Thang Street instead submerged road.
The flood had inundated 800 houses under 1.5 meter of floodwater and several hundreds of households in communes Phan Hoa and Phan Ri Thanh had to evacuate; 1,000 hectare of rice in paddy fields Cha Vau, Nha Mung, Ta Bo was destroyed, reported relevant agencies in Binh Thuan yesterday.
Chairman of Bac Binh District People’s Committee Le Van Long said that communes Phan Hoa and Phan Ri Thanh have being isolated because people cannot travel when bridges were destroyed. It is estimated initially that flood caused loss of VND20 billion (US$897,004).
