HCMC speeds up progress of two wastewater treatment plants

Deputy chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Van Khoa has instructed authorized agencies to speed up the progress of two wastewater treatment plants in District 9 and Thu Duc.

According to the committee, Mr. Khoa has prompted the Steering Center for Urban Flood Control Program and related agencies to build the plants, aiming to reduce environmental pollution in Binh Tho Canal in the two districts.
 
The first plant with the capacity of 170,000 cubic meters a day will be built in Truong Tho ward, Thu Duc. The second one with the capacity of 130,000 cubic meters a day locates in Truong Thanh ward, District 9.
 
Mr. Khoa has also asked the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with the districts to intensity inspection over waste discharge at production establishments and strictly handle violations.
 
He required them to force businesses to build wastewater treatment systems.
 
Those operating in polluting fields and discharging 1,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day must install automatic observation stations, which will transfer data to the Environmental Monitoring and Analysis Center to supervise as per regulations.
 
The People’s Committees of District 9 and Thu Duc must organize forces to remove water hyacinth and garbage from Sa Doi field in District 9, build and implement a project to dredge Binh Tho Canal to reduce pollution.
