For the last 50 years, GOPFP has made remarkable positive achievements in the population structure and controlling of imbalances in gender inequality.

The average number of children per woman in reproductive age in Vietnam has dropped from six in 1960 to two in 2010, and the sex birth ratio in 2011 is 111.7 boys to 100 girls.

Population levels in age groups from 15 to 64, which is majority of the workforce in the country, increased from 61.1 percent to 69.1 percent. The number of people aged 65 and above is now 6.6 percent.

Despite visible good results in previous years, population and family planning nationwide still meets with obstacles such as coping with a   large scale population, high population density, and unstable birth rate status.

The ‘National Action Month for Population 2011’ will start from December 1-31 with many activities to attract participation at all levels of age groups and society.

GOPFP will focus on comprehensive measures to enhance the quality of the population and the health condition of people in poorer areas of the country.
