The project aims to ensure the effective and sustainable exploitation of underground water resources amidst climate change, and prevent water level decrease, saltwater intrusion and depression due to the exploitation of underground water in Mekong Delta provinces.
Its outcomes are expected to help enhance water resource management capacity in the localities, build a database of underground water in targeted areas and use the database in water resource management and policymaking.
The project also hopes to raise public awareness and strengthen coordination between specialised agencies, water managers and users in underground water conservation, while enhancing investigation, assessment, protection and management capacity of agencies involved in the project.
The project will be rolled out nationwide in four years, from 2018, with funding of more than $2.4 million
