Four military officers were killed in a helicopter crash in the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City early on January 28, confirmed Lt. Gen. Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.
They are Sen. Lt. Col. Tran Van Duc, senior pilot; Sen. Lt. Col. Do Van Chinh, engineer; Major Le Hong Quan, pilot and navigator; and Lt. Nguyen Viet Cuong, pilot.
Mr. Vo Van Thuong, permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City PartyCommittee; Vice Chairmen of the City People's Committee Tat Thanh Cang and Le Thanh Liem; Major General Truong Van Hai, of the City High Command presented at the scene of the accident.
City's leaders delegated search and rescue forces from the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department, the city High Command and the border guards to look for and extricate victims from debris.
Bodies of victims were brought to the funeral house of the Ministry of Defense at 5 Pham Ngu Lao in Go Vap District.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has extended his deep condolences to families of military officials who died in the helicopter crash.
The PM asked the Ministry of Defense to work with relevant agencies, units, and localities to quickly examine the cause of the accident; and visit , encourage and support families’ victims.
The Bell UH-1 helicopter with 4 people on board lost contact with ground traffic control about 8 minutes after departing Tan Son Nhat International Aiport for training exercise; and came down in Pham Van Hai State Farm in Binh Chanh District in the early morning of January 28.
The reason of the accident is now under investigation.
