Three people have been reported dead even as floodwaters began receding in the badly devastated Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh Provinces by Sunday afternoon.
According to the Flood and Storm Prevention Center in the central and central highland region, flood levels are going down in all rivers from Thua Thien-Hue to Quang Ngai Provinces.
Quang Ngai has reported two people dead including a fourth grade student Ho Van Teo, from Tay Tra District and 26-year-old Nguyen Van Nam from Son Tinh District.
Several low lying areas were still deeply inundated in Nghia Hanh and Mo Duc Districts on Sunday. Landslides in the mountainous districts of Son Tay and Ba To have halted traffic to ten communes.
Highway 24 connecting Highway 1A to Kon Tum Province has been partly cleared as earlier landslides had caused traffic congestion for over two days.
An 18-year-old boy named Nguyen Van Dien from Quy Nhon town has reportedly died in Binh Dinh Province.
Flooding has so far caused a loss of VND51.4 billion (US$2.4 million) in Binh Dinh Province, where 2,100 houses were inundated, 4,000 chickens swept away and 210 hectares of young rice destroyed.
Phan Duc Tinh, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee in Dai Loc District of Quang Nam Province said that the district suffered a loss of VND117 billion ($5.6 million) due to flooding, which has also caused a shortage of seeds for the coming winter-spring rice crop.
