Binh Duong-based Tan Hiep Phat Corporation supported the province with 100 tons of rice, 5,000 blankets and 3,250 kegs of Soya milk and soft drinks.

The Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Duong province called on its people and businesses to collect money for flood victims of the central province.

Thousands of soldiers are staying in affected areas to help locals restore damaged houses, offer medical examinations and deliver free medicine.

A recent report showed that all schools in Tuyen Hoa, Quang Trach and Minh Hoa districts lost their textbooks and facilities. Some 52,000 pupils lost their books and uniforms, among them 8,000 twelfth graders who failed their graduation exams and now have no books or materials for the retest. Some 5,000 teachers’ houses were badly damaged. Two students lost their lives during the storm. The total toll on the province’s education sector have been reckoned at around VND230 billion (around US$14.2 million).

Meanwhile, hundreds of households have had to borrow money from banks and other sources to feed their shrimp and fish, with debts mounting into the billions. Some aquaculture rearers who went bankrupt after the floods have been feared to commit suicide.

Power was gradually restored in some communes such as Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa, but many others still have no electricity.

Quang Binh Province is facing many difficulties in resuming production for 240,030 farmers, and starvation is likely unless it receives aid from government and private citizens nationwide.
