Recent floods are estimated to have caused VND 28.9 billion in losses to the regional education sector, including damages to classrooms, toilets, tables, chairs, textbooks and teaching aids.

The DoET and local people are trying their best to repair the damages so children can resume their schooling as soon as possible, but schools in seven communes of Quang Dien Ward are reported to still be under a meter of water.

In related news, Sai Gon Giai Phong has offered 10,000 notebooks to pupils of five elementary schools in Dai Loc Ward of Quang Nam Province, which was the hardest hit in last month’s flooding.

According to recent reports from the Dai Loc Education and Training Office, the recent flooding destroyed 50 percent of the local education sector’s facilities including classrooms, textbooks and teaching aids worth VND6 billion. One pupil was killed and three teachers were injured.
