Five dead, three missing in Lai Chau landslide

Torrential rains triggered landslides in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau yesterday afternoon claiming two lives with three others reported missing.

Luu Minh Hai, deputy director of the Lao Cai Hydro Meteorological Center said that heavy rains lasting throughout Wednesday night till the following morning caused flooding in many areas.

Rainfall measured 395mm in Muong Te District which caused floods that swept away several homes and inundated farm crops.

Torrential rainfall caused landslides in the Nam Cau mountain village of Bum To Commune. A landslide buried a family of six crushing two to death while one managed to escape. Three are still reported missing.
