After one month of undergoing a detoxification treatment at the Military Hospital 103 in Hanoi, 24 out of a total 62 persons suffering from effects of Agent Orange, were discharged from the hospital on October 11.

The 24 persons who underwent treatment by the gratis method, also known as the Hubbard method, were discharged from hospital in a fitter and more stable condition.

They were detoxified through a method that cleansed their perspiration, digestion and urinary tracts. In addition, they were provided a variety of nutritious meals and doses of multi-vitamins.

Six years ago, the Canada-based Hatfield Consultants Company-a global leader in the field of Agent Orange contamination-took random blood samples from people who lived around Da Nang Airport and consumed water from local wells.

Of those tested, 62 were confirmed infected with the toxic chemical. This result shocked people living around the airport, which is now identified as one of the three dioxin hot spots in Vietnam, besides Bien Hoa Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai and Phu Cat Airport in the central province of Binh Dinh.

Phan Thanh Tien, vice chairman of the Da Nang City Association for Victims of Agent Orange, said 16 victims of Agent Orange will be hospitalized for detoxification treatment by the end of October.

The People’s Committee of Da Nang City has granted the association a land area of 300 square meters in Thanh Khe District for construction of a detoxification center.
