According to a Facebook official in Vietnam on July 5, the social networking site has received feedback from users in Vietnam about inaccurate positions in the location map used in Facebook's ad manager.
Facebook has investigated and found this is a technical error. "We have fixed the bug and are deploying the update globally. We apologize for causing this confusion to the user, "a Facebook representative said.
Information from the social network also said that the state agencies of Vietnam have asked the company about this issue and the company has explained and corrected technical errors.
Earlier, on July 3, Facebook representative said: "When we learned that Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos were incorrectly described on the tools, we corrected the technical errors that caused them."
According to Facebook, all Facebook maps used are provided by a third party, primarily OpenStreetMap and HERE Maps. Facebook has also added this information to open source data provided by Facebook users. Together, the map in Facebook Ad Manager has been fixed and the Spratly and Paracel archipelagos will no longer be displayed in Chinese territory.
