EIB to provide Hanoi EUR143 million in loan for third metro line

European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide a loan package of EUR143 million (US$171 million) for Hanoi to construct the third metro line and purchase new trains for the project, announced Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam’s Office.

The third metro route is 26 kilometer long, connecting Troi, Nhon area, Hanoi railway station and Hoang Mai district together.
The first phase of the project in Nhon-Hanoi station has started construction since 2010, expected to complete in 2021.
The second phase will continue building Hanoi station-Hoang Mai stretch over eight kilometers with seven stations through Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung and Hoang Mai districts.
Investment capital is expected to total US$1.22 billion.
After completion, the third metro line will change urban traffic in Hanoi and contribute in reducing travel time, cost and vehicle exhaust emissions.
