Dong Nai side proposed wholesalers and retailers in HCMC speeding up consumption of pork from Dong Nai farms by buying 10,000 pigs a day instead of 6,000 pigs like currently.

However, enterprises and market managers moaned that it is hard to raise the consumption. For instance,  Vietnam's leading foodstuff processor Vissan said that it has raised the consumption from 1,200 to 1,800 pigs a day within 3 previous months.

Hoc Mon wholesale market increased by 700 pigs a day and Binh Dien wholesale market said the figures of pigs increased by 1,000 a day compared to two months ago.

Deputy director of Industry and Trade Department in HCMC Nguyen Huynh Trang said that the department will work with enterprises who can buy pigs for freezing. The Department will ask importers to stop import pork, food producers not to use imported pork.

To raise the consumption of pigs, the Department will work with industrial and export processing zones to buy pork, aiming to help farmers overcome the difficult period.
Husbandry Association in Dong Nai Province said that nine stores have been set up so far to sell pork.
In one week, these stores have sold out 138 tons of pork at the price of VND20,000- VND26,000 a kilogram, an increase of VND3,000 compared to last month.

As per the Farmer Association in Dong Nai Province, nearly 1.7 million pigs are bred in the province. Following the drop of pork price, related agencies proposed banks to extend debt deadlines of  payment time and reduce interest to lessen farmers’ burden.
