According to the Deputy PM, wrong reports of fish sauce quality of Vinatas was causing harmful effects on domestic fish sauce business.
Accordingly, it is slight penalty that Vinatas leaders received reprimand. Mr. Binh asked the Ministry to issue harsher penalty.
In the end of May, 2017, the Department of Market Management under the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued administrative fine of VND15 million for releasing wrong posters, leaflets, documents on food safety that traditionally made fish sauce had higher arsenic content than permitted leading to concern amongst the public. Afterwards, Vinastas was forced to withdraw and destroy the wrong leaflets and documents.
In April, 2017, Vinastas dismissed the association’s general secretary Vuong Ngoc Tuan from his duty.
In the middle of February, the government office also sent the Deputy PM’s instruction on penalty on Vinatas to the ministries of Public Security, Industry and Trade, Home Office.
As per the instruction, the Ministry of Public Security must carry out investigation on the quality of fish sauce and the ministries of Industry and Trade and Home Office must follow the deputy PM’s instruction.
