Death toll due to traffic accidents rises by 11 percent

Compared to January, the number of traffic accidents increased 61 cases accounting for 3.6 percent, the number of dead people soared 82 people accounting for 11 percent and 304 people were injured in incidents, said the committee.

As per the committee, traffic accidents in February surged because more people and more vehicles flocked to festivals nationwide. Traffic violations still occurred, especially drunk drivers had high speed, drive carelessly without helmets.

The country has seen 3,465 traffic accidents in the first two months of the year killing 1,570 people, wounding 2,660 others.

In the first two months, traffic police officers nationwide wrote 636,733 reports of traffic violation; VND392 billion collected in fines; 5,031 cars and 94,041 motorbikes were kept and 58,268 driving licenses revoked.

On the same day, the committee sent its document to the chairman of People’s Committee in the southern province of Dong Ngai asking to probe the cause of many railway accidents lately in the province.
