Traffic has been paralyzed after a girder supporting the Tu Cau Bridge in Da Nang broke on July 19.
Rebuilt in 1992, the bridge links National Road 1A with Dien Nam – Dien Ngoc Industrial Zone and Hoi An town.
Phan Dinh Ngo, director of the Quang Nam Traffic and Transport Works Joint Stock Company, said the bridge has been in very poor shape for several years now.
A proposal to rebuild it has been sent to the provincial authority, he said, adding the area would be closed to all vehicles and boats until then.
The Department of Traffic and Transport are investigating the cause of the damage.
