Country honors Heroic Mothers, Martyrs, War Veterans

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, deputy secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee led a delegation to visit and offer gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers in District 11 and Hoc Mon District on July 24 on occasion of the 65th anniversary of ‘War Invalids and Martyrs Day’ (July 27).

Ms. Ha expressed deep gratitude to heroic mothers,Le Thi Huu, Nguyen Thi Che, Nguyen Thi Huu, Nguyen Thi Co and Nguyen Thi Sau for their courage and contribution towards national liberation. She wished them all good health and happiness and also asked the local authorities to take care of Vietnamese heroic mothers, war veterans and social policy beneficiaries, and help improve their lives.

The deputy secretary also attended a ceremony honoring 183 citizens who have made outstanding contributions in taking care of social policy beneficiaries in Hoc Mon District.

On the same day, a delegation of officials of the HCMC Party Committee visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers in Go Vap District and District 12.

Meanwhile, Huynh Thanh Lap, head of the National Assembly Representative Committee from HCMC, and Binh Chanh District leaders offered presents to heroic mothers in Vinh Loc A and Vinh Loc B Wards.

Le Minh Tri, deputy chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, paid a visit to war heroic mothers in Tan Binh and Tan Phu Districts.

A meeting marking the 65th anniversary of ‘War Invalids and Martyrs Day’ and honoring martyrs, war heroes and their families, was held at the HCMC Youth Cultural House on July 24.

The Ha Tinh Province government offered incense and flowers to martyrs at the Dong Loc T-junction relic site and celebrated the 44th death anniversary of ten unmarried girls at the Dong Loc intersection.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan visited and offered gifts to heroic mothers, Ho Thi Xuan and Tran Thi Manh, and families of women martyrs Vo Thi Ha and Ha Thi Xanh.

Additionally, the HCMC Border Guard handed over five charity houses, gifts and free medical treatment to 500 disadvantaged patients and people in Ca Mau Province in the Mekong Delta. They also offered 20 wheelchairs to disabled children, 1,000 notebooks to poor students, and sports apparatus and four LCD TVs to Ca Mau Border Guards.

Ben Tre Province authorities held a ceremony to receive the title “Hero of the People's Armed Forces” for the A101 Unit on July 24, a base that received weapons from the north to support the battle in the south against US imperialists in Thanh Phong Commune of Thanh Phu District.

On the same day, an exhibition featuring hundreds of photos and relics of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Cambodia is being held at the HCMC South East People's Armed Forces Museum.

In related news, Can Tho City, An Giang Province, Hue City and Quang Binh Province also organized many activities marking ‘War Invalids and Martyrs Day’, such as exhuming and repatriating the remains of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in war in Cambodia, giving free medical treatment, building and upgrading martyrs cemetery.

An art program celebrating the day was held at Hanoi Opera House by the Vietnam Martyr Families Support Association, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, the Vietnam Television and the Vietnam National Communication Group on July 24.

The Vietnam Martyr Families Support Association presented three gratitude houses, 10 savings books, hundreds of gifts and scholarships to martyrs’ relatives in 40 cities and provinces across the country.

The Managing Board of Saigon Giai Phong’s charity program ‘Nghia Tinh Truong Son’ (Sentimental attachment for Truong Son Road) donated gifts to families of soldiers who fought along the Truong Son road in Quang Tri Province.
