The expressway is over 63km long running through Chi Lang and Huu Lung districts in Lang Son Province and Lang Giang District in Bac Giang Province. It has a design speed of 100 km per hour with four lanes and two for emergency stops.

The project includes the upgrade of the surface of the National Highway 1A’s 110-km section in Bac Giang and Lang Son.

The work will be implemented under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) format at a total cost of over VND12.188 trillion (US$560.65 million).

The Bac Giang-Lang Son section is part of the Hanoi-Bac Giang 152km-long expressway linking Hanoi and Huu nghi Border Gate in Lang Son Province.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked investors and contractors to ensure the progress and quality of the work, adding that local authorities of Bac Giang and Lang Son must create advantages for implementing construction and land clearance.

The expressway is expected to boost local socio-economic development as it meets the transportation demand to reduce congestion and traffic accidents on the National Highway 1A.

The Bac Giang-Lang Son expressway project will be completed in 2017.
