The 19th World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 6-7.
Sushant Palakurthi Rao, Director, Head of Asia for World Economic Forum, told a press conference in Hanoi on June 3 that by holding the WEF on East Asia in Vietnam, participants will be in a country that exemplifies the dynamism of this region.
“This is an important opportunity to explore Asia’s leadership agenda and discuss how the region will respond to global challenges,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Doan Xuan Hung said that the diverse discussion model of the World Economic Forum on East Asia will be an ideal platform for Vietnam and other countries to share with participants the practices and development orientation in the recovery process of the regional and world economy.
“In addition, in assuming the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2010, hosting the World Economic Forum on East Asia will help Vietnam to broaden the opportunities for better understanding and policy cohesion among countries in the region and other partners in the world to cope with current challenges and drive towards sustainable growth”, he said.
The forum will focus on four main topics including Asia's rising role, global risks, green growth programs and future growth programs. Participants will share their ideas, propose solutions to issues of mutual concerns and outline directions for regional development for next year and for a longer term.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is expected to deliver his opening speech and attend two official sessions. Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai, leaders of ministries and several Vietnamese scholars will be on hand as main speakers at the forum.
During the forum, PM Dung and other high-ranking Vietnamese officials will have bilateral talks with their counterparts and several officials from leading businesses in the region and the world.
Apart from the forum’s official agenda, Vietnam will hold numerous sideline events to introduce Vietnamese land and people as well as the country’s economic development and dynamic images of the Vietnamese business community.
