City steps up tree plantation along rivers, canals

Young people joined hand to plant 500,000 green trees along rivers and canals to advocate the 99th Green Sunday, which was hosted by the Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union on March 17.

They planted trees in Districts 12, Thu Duc, Cu Chi, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon and Nha Be in HCMC.
 
On this occasion, Nguyen Van Dua, Deputy Secretary of the city Party’s Committee, and young volunteers presented households in the apartment blocks 1A-1B Nguyen Dinh Chieu and along Hoang Sa Street in District 1 with 500 ornamental plant basins.

The young people mobilized residents living along Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Streets in Districts 1, 3 and Phu Nhuan to pledge not to encroach streets and litter in canals.

They also cleaned streets and planted grass on lane dividers in Binh Tan District.

In related news, the city People’s Committee has tasked districts to plant one million trees this year to increase the green cover and reduce pollution in the city.

Local authorities will plant trees along rivers and canals to prevent landslide in Districts 12, Thu Duc, Binh Thanh, Nha Be, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi. They will also grow 20 hectares of protective forests in Can Gio District and 83 hectares in Binh Chanh District.

According to the forest development plan in the phase 2013-2015, the city will take advantage of land areas, where industrial production units will have to be evacuated, to develop another 250 hectares of parks and tree plantation inner the city and improve and broaden the current park areas.
