The ceremony was organized by the city’s Party Committee, the People’s Council, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front.

The event was also attended by former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, former Vice President Truong My Hoa, heroic mothers, military heroes, labor heroes, and some 1,000 veteran revolutionaries, patriotic personalities, intellectuals, workers, and young people.

A delegation representing the party committee of An Giang province, the native land of the late president, took part in the anniversary. The delegation included the children of the late president.

The meeting was told that Mr. Thang was one of the leaders of workers’ movements, an unyielding communist soldier and a deserving heir of President Ho Chi Minh.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Thao said the late president was an example of loyalty towards the nation and love of the people.

“In the context of the city facing some difficulties, we must live and work under the late president’s example of thrift and opposition to bureaucracy and corruption so that we can reduce the inflation, maintain economic growth and improve social security,” said Ms. Thao.

On behalf of some 1.2 million workers, the representatives of the city’s Labor Federation and the Ba Son enterprise expressed their pride in the late president and their determination to follow his example in building and protecting the fatherland.

On this occasion, the city authorities presented rewards to 10 students who won prizes in a contest entitled “President Ton Duc Thang – A Great Personality”.

Earlier, some members of the local government took part in an incense offering ceremony at the Ton Duc Thang Museum and the exhibition of 20 years of operation of the museum.

At the Ba Son enterprise, where Mr. Thang once worked as a mechanic and conducted revolutionary activities, a meeting was held to mark his birthday.

Colonel Phan Hoang Ha, the Ba Son deputy general director, reviewed the life and the revolutionary cause of Mr. Thang and said that he was an example of morality, loyalty, diligence, modesty, simplicity and love for the motherland and people.

At the meeting, the enterprise presented Ton Duc Thang scholarships to 280 students. The recipients are children of Ba Son workers and were outstanding achievers in the last school year.

An Giang Pays Tribute to Late President

In commemoration of President Ton Duc Thang, the An Giang province’s Party Committee and People’s Committee held an incense-offering ceremony on Wednesday morning at the Ton Duc Thang Memorial, in the center of Long Xuyen city, and at the Ton Duc Thang Temple at My Hoa Hung commune – the native place of the late president. Following the ceremony was a meeting held at the provincial government office to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of late president.

In Vinh Long province, a newly-established showroom that highlights Ton Duc Thang’s life and career opened Monday to the public.
