City leader receives new Canadian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong yesterday had a meeting with new Canadian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Kyle Nunas.

At the reception, the city leader appreciated cooperative relationship between Canada and Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, in many fields.

The city has promoted cooperative programs with Canada, and hoped the partner would strengthen further cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City in the fields of infrastructure, education, building smart city and the water supply system etc etc…, added chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong.  

Mr.Kyle Nunas said that  Canada laid down as strengthening relationship and connection with the Asia-Pacific region, treasured role of ASEAN and desired to promote further cooperation with Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City. 

Vietnam is the leading trade partner of Canada in ten countries of ASEAN, the consul general said. 

In the previous time, the two- way trade turnover between Vietnam and Canada increased 20- 25 percent a year, reached nearly US$ 5 billion. 

Canadian direct investment in the country reached over US$ 5 billion.
