Charitable activities held to mark Vu Lan' Buddhist festival

Thousands of pilgrims flocked to the Lieu Quan Buddhism Culture Center in the former imperial city of Hue for Vu Lan' Buddhist festival on September 4.

On the same day, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Thua Thien Hue province also held a ceremony marking the Vu Lan' Buddhist festival in the year of Buddhist Calendar 2561 (2017); and presented gifts to the poor and patients in the Hue Central Hospital.
The ‘Vu Lan’ Buddhist festival is held annually at the Suoi Tien Cultural Park in Ho Chi Minh City. Visitors will have a chance to enjoy free vegetarian buffets on September 5 in the park. Suoi Tien Cultural Park is expected to attract thousands of visitors during festival.
Vu Lan Festival is one of the largest annual traditional festivals of Viet Nam. It takes place every year on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month. This year, Vu Lan falls on September 5.
The festival, also known as Buddhist Mother’s Day in Vietnam, is an occasion for people to express their gratitude to mothers and ancestors.
