The 1.1 million Euro (about US$1.18 million) project, sponsored by the Italian government and Italian Association, has been conducted by HUMP and Italy’s Sassari University since 2007.
It helped build a laboratory for high school students and an Intensive Care Unit while training health staff in nine central provinces on respiratory disease prevention.
It also provided training for university staff in hospitals and education institutes in Italy, Canada and China.
Under the project, five master’s degree courses on medical biotechnology were opened with 46 participants.
The same day, HUMP worked with professors and specialists from Italy, Japan and Germany to organise a workshop on tropical diseases, attracting more than 500 participants.
