Inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Environment Crime Police, and related agencies from HCMC seized a huge haul of 7.5 tonnes of banned lean-meat enhancing chemical additives on April 11 in My Hao District in the Red River Delta province of Hung Yen.

According to Pham Tien Dung, head of the specialised inspection force under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the above team discovered more than 7.5 tonnes of the banned chemical in powdered form with English labels and vague Vietnamese translation describing it as a ‘growth-promoting steroid for pigs’.

What is significant is that the packaging of this powdered chemical is identical to a lean-meat additive found by the Environment Crime Police under the Ministry of Public Security in Ho Chi Minh City not so long ago, Dung said.

Therefore, the inspection team decided to seize the consignment and send a sample for analysis, expecting to receive precise results in a week.

On April 10, the Environment Crime Police under the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies from HCMC detected and seized one tonne of banned lean-meat chemical agents used for animal husbandry.

The packaging showed the name and address of the company as ONI Co Ltd, 316/3 Country Road No.80, Binh Hung Hoa B Ward, Binh Tan District, HCMC.
