August CPI surges

The consumer price indices (CPI) in the country surges 0.92 percent from July, as per the General Statistics Office (GSO)’s announcement on August 29.

Accordingly, CPI in eight months saw a year-on-year rise of 3.84 percent.
According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), 10 out of the 11 goods and service categories used for the CPI calculation saw price hikes especially food which soared by 1.64 percent. The surge of food is attributable to the whole CPI leap by 0.37 percent. Pork and its products increased by 5.72 percent compared to previous month.
The price of food rose due to heavy and consecutive rainstorms nationwide; consequently, vegetable price leaped by 3.89 percent.
Noticeably, the group of medicine and healthcare services often having highest hike amongst the 11 groups of commodities has seen the soar of 2.86 percent this month. Mostly, healthcare services increased by 3.72 percent for uninsured patients following the people’s committees’ decision pushing the whole CPI up by 0.14 percent.
With the recently announced CPI data, the country’s inflation indicator in August soared 0.1 percent from July and rose by 1.31 percent over the same period last year.

Averagely, in eight months of the year, the inflation leaped by 1.47 percent compared to same period last year, 1.8 percent lower than the plan.
