Addressing the event, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said a great majority of children have enjoyed better care and finest values over the past years thanks to due attention by the Party, State, families and the whole society.

However, the care for underprivileged children remains a challenge for the society, she said, adding that this year’s action month with the theme “Creating equal development opportunities for poor and ethnic minority children” is of great significance to the task of caring for, educating and protecting children at present.

The Vice President asked authorities, organisations, communities and families nationwide to work out more measures to assist underprivileged children as well as implement effectively the National Action Programme for Children in 2011-2020 period and the 2011-2015 National Child Protection Programme.

On this occasion, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) received nearly 10 billion VND from five domestic and foreign donors to sponsor the implementation of programs and projects for disabled children and children of difficult circumstances.

Responding the International Children’s Day (June 1) and the Action Month for Children 2013, localities and units across the country have carried out a range of practical activities for children, especially those of difficult circumstances and Agent Orange/Dioxin victims.
