75 Charity Houses Handed Over to the Poor

Philip Morris – Vietnam donated over 75 charity houses Friday to poor residents, people suffering from dioxin poisoning and the disabled living in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

The endowment is valued at over VND1.5 billion (US$94,000).

In the past 3 years the company has built 42 “compassion” homes in the central provinces of Da Nang and Quang Nam, along with providing urgently needed emergency relief supplies and funds in the wake of typhoons Chanchu and Xangsane.

The company has also built a new school, with a capacity of 500 students, in the highlands of Phu Yen province, bringing the total value of humanitarian programs in the central provinces over the past 3 years to VND3 billion (US$187,000) when added to contributions made by the Red Cross and East Meets West.

The total number of beneficiaries is estimated at over 6,000 people.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with the participation of representatives from The Thua Thien Hue People’s Committee, The East Meets West Foundation, Philip Morris – Vietnam and The Thua Thien Hue Red Cross.
