More than 6,000 applications have been made to buy cheap houses in Hanoi, the Ministry of Construction said at a press briefing Wednesday to announce the first cheap house festival later this month.

According to the ministry, the applications were made for houses between VND1-2 billion (US$95,000) at apartment buildings.

Many applications were made by people under 35 years old, for houses between 30 and 40 square meters apiece and those above 35 years old for houses between 60 and 100 square meters apiece in Hanoi downtown.

Most of the people expressed wish to be allowed to pay by installments and get fund support from banks.

The cheap house festival will be thrown on two days September 24 and 25 at My Dinh National Conference Center, expected to have 500 consultation booths which will carry out around 1,000 house transactions.
