6,000 disabled people participate in free camp

More than 6,000 disabled people from Ho Chi Minh City and 14 provinces nationwide participated in a camp marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Suoi Tien Entertainment and Cultural Park in District 9 in Ho Chi Minh City on November 30.

More than 6,000 disabled people from Ho Chi Minh City and 14 provinces nationwide participated in a camp marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Suoi Tien Entertainment and Cultural Park in District 9 in Ho Chi Minh City on November 30.

Organized for the first time in 2000, the annual camp is a chance for the disabled to meet and share experiences with each other.

They enjoy cultural activities, free meals, beverages and transport fee of VND30,000 each, which is financed by sponsors donating upto VND1.2 billion.

Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung, Vice Director of HCMC Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said they have created jobs and given vocational training to more than 1,000 disabled people, helped over 5,000 children with disabilities to go to public and special schools, and opened free local buses for the handicapped.
