5th East Asian Seas to take place in November

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a plan to set up the national organization board of the fifth East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress that will be held in the central coastal city of Da Nang from November 16-21.

The board is headed by Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Nguyen Minh Quang, and supported by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee as well as including representatives of the ministries of finance, public security, national defense, planning and investment, and agriculture and rural development, along with the Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands.

The fifth East Asian Seas Congress has attracted around 600 Vietnamese and international delegates. It aims to create a platform for knowledge sharing, strengthen cooperation and learning opportunities, and promoting a coastal and ocean sustainable management in the East Asian Seas region.

The 2015 event themed “Global targets – Local benefits: Setting the Sustainable Development Agenda for the Seas of East Asia beyond 2015”, will be jointly organized by PEMSEA, the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, and the Da Nang People’s Committee.

Since its launch in 2003, the EAS Congress is launched every three years in PEMSEA member countries.
