Some charitable activities have recently launched in the country, aiming to support disadvantaged people and children.
42 children infected with HIV and disadvantaged in the Mekong delta province of Vinh Long partook in the Mid-Autumn ceremony. Of them ,27 were granted scholarships and new bicycles from Youth Communist Union of HIV/ AIDS prevention center and some charity groups.
Additionally, also in the province, VND72 billion was spent for medical examination and treatment for 92,000 senior people; to build 2,800 houses; offer social welfare to 23,000 elderly people and give free insurance cards to 40,200 senior others in successive 5 years.
Meantime, The Union of Senior People has launched a program with aim to provide free medical examination and treatment to 1,000 elderly residents in the Mekong delta province of Bac Lieu. 120 of them were treated vision diseases.
Elsewhere in the central province of Quang Nam, 112 poor students but excel in studying received scholarships each worth VND7 million (US$ 312.9) and gifts. Total are worth over VND800 million (US$ 35,990) supported by Quang Nam-Da Nang club to help students to go on study and Bac – Nam Construction Company.
Moreover, 37 scholarships each worth VND5.5 million (US$ 245.8) were given to poor students in Dien Ban Town and Dai Loc District of Quang Nam Province by the Nam Hai Charitable fund.
Over 25,000 people in Mekong delta provinces of Tien Giang, Soc Trang, the central city of Da Nang and central province of Quang Binh, Son Tay District in Hanoi were provided a vision care program.
In response to the World Sight Day on October 10, Rhoto - Mentholatum Vietnam Company; Cao Thang Eye Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and the National Eye Hospital in Hanoi carried out the program to take care of eyes of people in the above- mentioned provinces.
This has been the tenth program conducted by the company and the hospitals.
The program also supported the expenditure for 50 eye operations to remove cataracts for needy patients.
