2018 is starting year of Smart City project: deputy chairman

2018 will be the hinge year of Smart City project and HCMC will focus on establishing foundations for architectural framework and technology infrastructures of the project’s four key missions, said deputy chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen yesterday.

He was speaking at a conference reviewing one year of carrying out the cooperation agreement between HCMC People’s Committee and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) on December 27.
The project of developing HCMC into a smart city in the phase of 2017-2020 and visions till 2025 is the especially important initial step bringing overall orientation for the target of sustainable development in long term of the city.
Specifying the four key missions of the project, Mr. Tuyen said they comprise building of a common data warehouse and an open data ecosystem, a center simulating socio-economic strategy forecasts, intelligent operation center (IOC) and safe information center.
In addition, districts will synchronously pilot smart models and solutions citywide.
Mr. Tuyen welcomed VNPT’s attendance in the project, proposed the group to continue improving the reference architecture framework for Smart City, work with Quang Trung Software Park Development Company to build a data backup center for HCMC, put forward IOC model and solutions and study the pilot implementation of the smart city project in Thu Thiem New Urban Area with specific measures.
VNPT leaders committed to HCMC leaders to prepare technologies and resources to participate in Smart City, coordinate with agencies to build a roadmap and plan to implement the project in each phase according to the city’s practical implementation demand.
