Border soldiers told vessels out the East Sea about the direction of the tropical low pressure, guiding them to safer shelters. Flood inundated innumerable houses in Ha Tinh while 34,650 houses in Quang Binh, over 10,000 in Quang Tri and more than 7,200 accommodations in Thua Thien-Hue were submerged in floodwater.

Governments sent rescue crews to victims in affected area and vessels in the sea. The High Command of Military Region No. 4 sent two helicopters, canoes and amphibious vehicles to bring 12.5 tons of instant noodles, dried foodstuff, canvasses and clean water to victims in seriously flooded areas.

Life-line highways have been open to traffic. However, railway tracks passing by Quang Binh were swept away. It will take five days to repair the tracks. Railway Company transported over 2,000 passengers stranded in Dong Hoi station by bus to Vinh station where they could continue the journey to Hanoi.

Tran Le Sang, deputy head of Huong Khe district People’s Committee, affirmed nobody was left in starvation. Ha Tinh province has spent VND1.3 billion to help residents in flood affected areas. Ministry of Health provided VND100 million and five bags of medications, province’s Red Cross Society, Fatherland Front and the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) to give 12 tons of instant noodles to Huong Khe residents.

Maintenance crews Oct.6 repaired the Ho Chi Minh Highway as cascading soil and rock closed the section of the highway a few days ago. Thua Thien- Hue mobilized all forces to fix and shore up other land erosion in the province.

On the behalf of the government, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen SInh Hung sent an urgent dispatch to people’s committees in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Thua Thien-Hue to expense its state budget to purchase instant noodles and clean water to provide to victims.

In response to the appeal of Vietnam Red Cross, agencies, organizations and individuals in the country launched subscription for people in the central.

Vietnam Red Cross provided Ha Tinh and Quang Binh each 1,000 packages including blankets, nets, pots and essential items, 50 canvases and VND150 million, gave Quang Tri 600 packages of necessary items and VND50 million, supplied Nghe An and Thua Thien-Hue each 400 packages of goods and VND50 million. The total is worth VND2.2 billion.

Vietnam General Federation of Labor collected nearly VND150 million for the subscription.

In response to the call for support for disaster victims in the central Vietnam of Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee and Relief Agency, VND3.3 billion was collected at the meeting. The charity subscription will last from Oct. 6 to 31.

Participants of the Party Congress in HCMC on Oct. 6 raised over VND75 million. People should send assistance to HCMC Fatherland Front Committee at 55 Mac Dinh Chi, district 1 or Saigon Bank for Industry and Trade’s account 000870406001484.

The government office held a collection for flood victims on Oct.6, Vietnamese State leader Nguyen Minh Triet, former State President Tran Duc Luong, Vice president Nguyen Thi Doan, former vice president Truong My Hoa and staffs gave at least one day salary to support central people. State president Nguyen Minh Triet sent his condolence to people in the central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue, especially to families whose relatives were dead in the flood.
