Dead, missing victims in central Vietnam continue to raise

Ha Tinh reported seven dead, Quang Binh three dead and two missing, Quang Tri two dead and two missing. Flood also inundated tens thousands of houses and sank tens of vessels, according to an initial statistics by Oct. 4.

The mountainous districts Huong Khe and Vu Quang of the central province of Ha Tinh are separated completely  due to high flood; villages schools, traffic constructions are submerged in water.

Flood also damaged a generator of the 14-MW Ho Ho hydropower plant in Vietnam's central provinces of Quang Binh and Ha Tinh. The water in the plant’s reservoir overflowed on Oct. 3 and the reservoir is at risk of breaking.

22,000 houses in the central province of Quang Binh’s districts Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa, Quang Trach, Bo Trach, Quang Ninh and Le Thuy were inundated by rising water of the Gianh river. Eight fishing vessels broke down, drifting on the sea.

Flood-trigger landslide caused deaths of a couple and injured two other people in the central province of Quang Tri’s Khe Sanh town. One man Le Van Tam who dropped by the house was reportedly missing.

40,000 residents of the central province of Quang Binh’s district Minh Hoa are facing shortage of fresh water, foodstuff and places for sleeping as flood rose to their houses’ roofs. All ways to villages in district Minh Hoa are congested with rocks and sand meanwhile other way, Ho Chi Minh highway, is submerged under 5 meter of water.

Thousands of pigs and over 5,000 cattle were swept away in the flood, causing anxiety among people. Quang Binh People’s Committee has sent its rescue crews to provide assistance to victims.

According to the Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center of the South, Sai Gon river water will exceed the first-stage warning level by 1.30 meter in next days. Suburban district governments should pay attention to embankments.
