12th National Assembly convenes final session

The final session of the 12th National Assembly opens in Ha Noi today with a report assessing implementation of the country's socio-economic plan for 2010-11.

The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on VTV and Voice of Viet Nam radio and will be chaired by Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung will present the economic report, which will also include a report on the State budget. Remarks on the report will be presented by National Assembly Economics Committee chairman Ha Van Hien.

President Nguyen Minh Triet and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will also take turns to review their accomplishments during 2007-11, and lawmakers will also hear reports from the Chief Judge of the Supreme People's Court, Truong Hoa Binh, and the head of the Supreme People's Procuracy, Tran Quoc Vuong.

Trong will also present a report on the legislative accomplishments of the 12th National Assembly.

The subsequent eight-day session is expected to pass four bills, including the Law on Independent Audit, the Law Against Human Trafficking,the Law on the Capital City, and amendments to the Civil Litigation Code.

Discussions on gender equality, management of the social insurance fund and re-investment of PetroVietnam's 2010 profit of VND3.5 trillion (US$167 million) will also be on the National Assembly's agenda.
