Related agencies are calculating the number of elephant tusks and pangolin scales trafficked into Vietnam under the cover of small red beans.
Police officers from the Ministry of Public Security and customs officers August 25 uncovered container of sip company Wanhai at Tien Sa Port in the central city of Da Nang to have a total of 5 tons of elephant tusks and pangolin scales hidden inside.
Earlier, on August 13, police officers also detected nearly 700 kilogram of elephant tusks and rhino horns trafficked from Africa in these batches of consignments of Van An Company with its headquarter in the central city of Da Nang. Test results verified tusks; accordingly police officers continued to raid other containers of the company and seized more 2.2 tons of tusks hidden under wood pieces.
Police will further investigation of trafficking.
The trade in tusks and rhino horn is banned under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora as well as Vietnamese law, as the two items are listed in the World’s Red Book.
