The Ho Chi Minh City Police yesterday caught two men red-handed while they were handing over 8,400 foreign cigarette packets to 41-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Hoa in Go Vap District.
45-year-old Nguyen Huu Binh and 34-year-old Le Thanh Binh had transported the consignment to Hoa at his home on 412 Le Duc Tho Street in Ward 17.
Police officials then searched five warehouses in the district, run by Hoa, and seized another 24,000 foreign cigarette packets.
Hoa claimed he has traded illegal foreign tobacco since 2009. The cigarette packets were transported from the Mekong Delta province of Long An and other places to the warehouses run by Hoa for later distribution in the market.
