Department for Investigation of Social Order under the Ministry of Public Security on Thursday arrested 17 persons of a woman trafficking ring that has sold 39 Vietnamese nationals to China since 2009.
The department coordinated with police forces in Ho Chi Minh City and the neighboring province of Tay Ninh to arrest the 17 member gang of ten Vietnamese and seven Chinese.
According to initial investigations, early in 2009, 55-year-old Lam Thi Dung from Tay Ninh Province became acquainted with 31-year-old Hin Cun Lin from Dong Nai Province. Lin suggested to Dung to find Vietnamese women for trafficking to a Chinese person who would then sell these women to Chinese men for marriage.
Dung set up a ring that included Nguyen Thi Hien, Tran Thi Ut, Vo Van Hoa, Le Ngoc Quan and Nguyen Thi Anh Nguyet who enticed and lured Vietnamese women wishing to marry foreigners.
Each woman sold brought in VND70-80 million of which VND5 million was Lin’s commission. Other ring members received tips of about VND500,000-3,000,000.
Since 2009 they have traded 39 Vietnamese women, of which four managed to escape and return to Vietnam. The other remaining women have got married to Chinese men and also given birth to children. However, the police have not yet been able to trace their whereabouts.
