Nutrition supplement companies fined for violating food safety regulations

Inspectors from the Ministry of Health yesterday issued fine decision to two companies in Hanoi and the orthern Province of Nam Dinh which sell nutritional supplements.

Inspectors from the Ministry of Health yesterday issued fine decision to two companies in Hanoi and the orthern Province of Nam Dinh which sell nutritional supplements.

SSBio Pharm K-V at 95D5 in  Tay Ho District of Hanoi was fined VND82 million (US$3,680) for advertising Korea Red Gingseng Extract Royal without health authority’s certifying and re-write the product’s second label, causing misunderstanding of the product.

SSBio Pharma Vina in Nam Dinh Province was fined VND278 million (US$ 12,471) because it imported Korean Red Gengseng Extract Royal which has substandard quality. Additionally, the company did not send their products to responsible agencies for annual testing and changed the date of checking on the testing certificates.

Health inspectors therefore asked the company to remove products for recycling or re-export. In case that the product cannot be recycled or re-exported, it must be destroyed under hygiene and food safety regulations.
