HCMC police smash drug trafficking ring

The Drug Crime Prevention Force under the Ho Chi Minh City Police has successfully smashed a drug-trafficking ring in District 8, arresting all 21 members of the gang.

Nguyen Hoang Thang, head of the Drug Crime Prevention Force said on November 5 that while the police had already arrested 19 of the gang members, the kingpins of the gang had still been on the run.

37-year-old   Nguyen Hoang Tuan and 29-year-old Nguyen Thi Thanh Hien, both residents of 690/37 Nguyen Duy Street in Ward 12 of District 8 were hiding from the police in various locations in   Long An, An Giang, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh Provinces. Police in Kon Tum Province finally caught up with the couple by the end of October this year while they were in the act of selling drugs.

Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Anyone   convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin can get the death penalty.
