Harsh penalties to be imposed on spammers

The Ministry of Information and Communication will impose sanction over handle spammers who bombard hundreds unwanted messages to users as well as impose harsh penalties on mobile operators who have subscribers to spread spam SMS, said Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Minh Hong in a talk with Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper yesterday.

The Ministry of Information and Communication will impose sanction over handle spammers who bombard hundreds unwanted messages to users as well as impose harsh penalties on mobile operators who have subscribers to spread spam SMS, said Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Minh Hong in a talk with Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper yesterday.

Spam SMS including realty invitation or fraud digital service advertisements and outbreak of spam SMS caused public anger for a long time.

Mr. Hong said that the Ministry has assigned the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) to work out an amendment which will attack this matter.

As current sanction has not been strong enough for deterring spammers from spreading unwanted messages, the Ministry warned a harsher fines to eliminate the matter.

To protect clients’ right, mobile phone network operators Vinaphone and MobiFone announced to stop connection with violating network operators and lock subscribers as well as inform authority to handle violating businesses.

MobiFone representative  said that in addition to handling spam call, the operator provided call barring service while Vinaphone supplies call blocking service for unwanted calls and SMS .
