Hai Phong Court opens the trial of the case "Destroying citizen property"

Haiphong People's Court on Apr 8 opened the trial of first instance hearing of the case "Destroying citizen property" and "irresponsibility causing serious consequences" related to wrongful acts in the coercive recovery services in the aquatic farming land in Vinh Quang Commune, Tien Lang district, Hai Phong province

Haiphong People's Court on Apr 8 opened the trial of first instance hearing of the case "Destroying citizen property" and "irresponsibility causing serious consequences" related to wrongful acts in the coercive recovery services in the aquatic farming land in Vinh Quang Commune, Tien Lang district, Hai Phong province.

The trial will last until the day Apr 10 and  the presiding Judging board led by Tran Thi Thu Ha, Chief Judge of the criminal court, Hai Phong City People's Court.

There are five defense lawyers for the defendants.

Four defendants have been charged with "destruction of citizen property" includes: Nguyen Van Khanh (former Vice Chairman of  Tien Lang district, cum Head of the Steering Committee of the coercive land acquisition ); Pham Xuan Hoa (former Head of the Resources - Environmental Office of the District cum Deputy Head of the Steering Committee of the coercive land acquisition ); Le Thanh Liem (former Chairman of the People’s Committee of Vinh Quang Commune, Tien Lang district, member of the Steering Committee ) and Pham Dang Hoan (the Party Secretary of Vinh Quang Commune).

Mr. Le Van Hien (former Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tien Lang district) was indicted on charges of "irresponsibility causing serious consequences".

On Jan 5, 2011, the People's Committee of Tien Lang district carried out the enforcement area of land acquisition of Doan Van Vuon.

Then Khanh ordered Liem , Hoa and Hoan to direct, supervise the force to destroy Vuon’s house.

Then, on Jan 6, the two-story house (located outside the area of enforcement) of the family of Doan Van Quy (Vuon’s brother) was also destroyed. Total assets destroyed reached nearly VND 500 million.

Hien was charged that with his position as the head of the local administration he did not comply with the responsibilities and duties according to the regulations and he had not inspected, detected and timely prevented the demolition of Vuon’s and Quy’s houses by the authorities, causing serious consequences.
