According to a decision announced by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, employees with infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, hepatitis type A and E, dermatitis, digestive disorders and other communicable diseases, are not allowed to prepare food because of the risk of spreading the disease.
The ministry also requires employees, especially those in the diary and restaurant business, to have a general health examination both before being hired on and every six months thereafter.
Employers must also keep medical profiles of their workers on file.
Last year the ministry asked local authorities to inspect restaurants and food vendors and issue licenses, but as of yet virtually no restaurant or food shop in the country has obtained a license.
